Peritoneal Cancer or another term called
Carcinoma is a layer of cancerous cell that develops in the Peritoneal.
The wall of the Peritoneal extends from the abdomen, to uterus right up
to the rectum and bladder.
On some occasion it also develops in the
ovarian of a female who had treatment on Ovarian Cancer. It is
interrelated to some extend. The wall of the ovaries are made up of the
same epithelial cells like the Peritoneal cells.
Peritoneal function is to produce a
lubricating fluid in the digestive system in order for food digested
from our stomach to move smoothly through the entire digestive system.
Peritoneal Cancer Symptoms
Like any normal internal growth cancer,
Peritoneal Cancer is not visible nor feel able types of cancer. It may
be at advance stage when it becomes noticeable. In this instance, the
only way to identify Carcinoma is by being observance to our own body.
You need to be a probe to yourselves.
Take note of these changes in yourself:
-
sudden changes in you body weight without
any reason
-
you don't have appetite
-
you feel heavy stomach after a small meal
-
constant feel of nausea, urination,
constipation, diarrhea and stomach discomfort
-
constant feeling of abdominal pain,
swelling, bloating, indigestion, cramps and disorganize
-
abnormal bleeding from the vagina even
though not having period
Peritoneal Cancer Diagnostic
To determine Peritoneal Cancer presence,
there are a few ways to diagnose:
-
Ultrasound: this requires high
frequency sound waves to produce a picture form called sonogram. The
specialist is able to explain the visual by analyzing the picture. This
form of scanning does no side effect to our tissue.
-
Pelvic Physical Examination: this
requires a Specialist to physical examine the size of the
ovaries, uterus, fallopian tube, rectum and the bladder. This is the
simplest of all the test but it cannot determine the early stage of
Peritoneal Cancer.
-
Endoscope: this device is inserted
into an opening which could be through rectum or ovary to visual
inspect the affected Peritoneal.
-
Barium Enema X-Rays: the patient
is given a white chalky non poisonous containing Barium orally. Then
the patient is required to go through a series of X-Ray from different
directions. From the report, the Doctor is able to determine the tumor
if there are any, from the outcome of the negatives. This diagnostic
method exposes the patient to a multiple times of Highly toxic
radioactive waves.
-
CT Scan or Computed Tomography:
this high end X-Ray machine provides multi tier Scanning through the
affected diagnose body parts. The patients will be anesthetic and
placed on moving table. This method exposes the patient to radio waves
too.
-
Biopsy: the conventional way of
testing the Peritoneal Cancer. This may require the patient to be
applied local or full anesthetic to cover up the pain. Subsequently the
patient's sample tissue is removed surgically for further test. This
method is very accurate but exposes the patient to further spread of
the Cancer Cells because of open wound inflicted from the minor
surgery.
Treatment for Peritoneal Cancer
Like any other types of cancer, the
normal practice to treat Peritoneal Cancer needs to be determined by
factors such as:
-
age
-
status of the patient's health
-
how advance has the cancer size gone to
-
what stage is the cancer at the time of
diagnostic
The likely treatment method for
Peritoneal Cancer are:
-
Radiotherapy: using high powered laser
ray to treat the affected area to kill off the cells. This method is
similar to burning away cells- the good and bad cells are killed
-
Chemotherapy: anti cancer drug are
injected into the blood stream by drips. There are many kinds of anti
Peritoneal Cancer drips available and they depend on the budget of the
patient. These drips are lethal if in uncontrolled amount.
