In asthma, the airways narrow and this makes breathing difficult. This could be due to a number of factors which contribute to the cause. A number of changes occur in the airways of a person with asthma, all of which can be reversed with the right treatment.

 

What happen in asthma cases?

  • the linings of the airways swell. In another word, the bronchi enlarge to the extend that it takes up the space of the airways.

  • plugs of mucus keeps forming and damaged cells block parts of the airways which make the airways even smaller

  • the nose gets irritated and become blocked

  • the muscle of the airways tighten

Asthma is an inflammatory disease. The airways of the patients with asthma are usually swollen. They are usually linked to allergies from the environment. When our immune system mistakenly identifies a foreign matter present in our airways, the allergy reaction occur.

 

Allergies can make the asthmatic problem to get worst. However it is not always the case where every asthmatic patient has allergy and not all allergies will trigger asthma.

During an asthma attack, the changes in the lungs suddenly become worse. The airway openings become smaller and the flow of every inhale and exhale through them are drastically reduced. When this happen, breathing become extremely difficult.

 

The Asthma Symptoms

 

The changes in the airways that occur in the asthma results in to have much more effort to inhale and exhale air on the lungs. This will lead to the following symptoms such as:

  • breathlessness. The victim shall need to breath with conscious mind instead of subconscious mind.

  • chest tightness. The victim may encounter pain and tiredness on the chest for the extra work done on every breath he take.

  • wheezing

  • coughing which usually occur more in children than adults

  • these symptoms are usually more severe at night or in winter when the weather is colder

  • symptoms are also severe when allergen are detected in the airways

What Actually Trigger An Asthma Attack?

 

Although in asthma is the underlying airway inflammation is the root cause, there are some aspect that will trigger or worsen the scenario. The main factors are:

  • Asthma Allergen which include pollen, animal and house mites, dust

  • Asthma Irritants which include cold air, chemical fumes, smoke from open burning and cigarette
