Acne: What is it about?

Acne affects majority of the population as a whole at one time or another. It is not life threatening but due to the reasons that it blemishes, acne becomes an important problem must be tackled.

Our outer most layer of skin consist of epidermis and the second layer is the dermis. Within  the epidermis and dermis lies our hair follicle. A wrap around hair gland forms at the root of the hair. This gland is called sebaceous gland.

The function of this gland is to secrete oily and waxy matter called sebum. Sebum is needed to lubricate the skin and the hair. Sebaceous gland is distributed throughout our body with the most concentrated part on our face and scalp.

How Acne Is Formed?

Our age, lifestyle, diet and many other factors determine how the sebaceous gland function. Normally during our late teens right up to twenties, our sebaceous is at it's hyper productive state to produce excessive sebum. The excessive sebum will make it's way out to our epidermis. When this happen, the person will face with excessive oil on the skin.

The only way to remove and cleanse the excessive oil on the skin is to wash regularly with natural or chemical free soap. This has got to be done at regular interval range from twice to four or five times a day depending on how severe his or her condition. Normally at this stage if the problem is well addressed, nothing will happen except having oily skin.

What Causes Acne?

If left unattended, the sebum might turn into hard wax. The hard waxy sebum might start to clog up the sebaceous gland. When this happen, the affected part become a problem. The clogged sebum in the gland turns into toxic. With the constant flow of sebum from the sebaceous gland, the matter become serious. The

sealed gland tunnel becomes a reservoir of toxin waxy substance waiting to ferment.

In the end, acne or commonly called pimple forms. The size of the acne will depend on how much sebum wax and toxin are clogged up. For sensitive and severe cases, cysts may form too.
